New Twist in Agartala’s Lighthouse Complex Dispute: Frustrated Homebuyers Protest
Hundreds of disgruntled homebuyers from various districts in Tripura descended upon the Tripura Urban Development Agency (TUDA) office in Agartala yesterday, demanding justice and resolution to their long-standing issue of delayed flat delivery at the Lighthouse complex near the Agartala Border Gol Chakkar. The controversy has been brewing for years, with promised handovers repeatedly pushed back, leaving many feeling betrayed and helpless.
The situation took a dramatic turn as the agitated protesters, who had parted with money for their flats in installments, vented their frustration to the Joint Secretary and submitted a humble appeal to the Chief Minister, urging prompt action to resolve the impasse. “We were promised our flats in 2022, but the delay continues,” said a frustrated homeowner. “We’ve paid multiple installments, but nothing has been done. We want our money back or our homes, period.”
The Lighthouse complex development project was intended to provide subsidized housing to thousands of deserving families. While the initial plan was to hand over the keys to the new owners in 2022, the deadline has long since come and gone. Homebuyers are now demanding justice, out of patience and out of pocket. “This has been a long, painful wait, and we won’t rest until our concerns are addressed,” another protester added. “We are not just fighting for our property rights; we are fighting for our rights as victims of government delay and incompetence.”
As the protesters stood united, hoping for a decisive response from the authorities, only time will tell if their cries will be heard and their pleas for relief will be answered. For now, the situation remains a stark example of delayed delivery, broken promises, and the struggle of the common man against powerful institutions.
