In a letter to the Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Shankar Chaudhary, Geniben Thakor, the lone representative of Gujarat in the Indian Parliament, has taken exception to the alleged exclusion of artists from the Thakor community from the recent felicitation of Gujarati artists at the Assembly. The event, which took place on March 11, saw several artists invited to witness the proceedings of the Assembly and later felicitated by the Speaker.
According to Thakor, actor Vikrambhai Thakor, a prominent artist from the Thakor community, was not invited to the event, and neither were any other members of the community. “This is a matter of great concern and raises questions about the principle of equal treatment and respect for all individuals, including artists from our community,” Thakor stated in a video message.
Thakor’s objection is rooted in her conviction that the organizers of the event have failed to ensure that all artists, including those from the Thakor community, were treated with dignity and respect. “Those responsible for the decision have failed to uphold the values of equality and fairness, and it is our duty to speak out against such injustices,” she emphasized.
