Double Trouble Caught at Agartala Railway Station: 2 Arrested with Dry Ganja
Agartala Railway Station became the epicenter of a major drug bust on March 15 evening, as a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) led to the apprehension of two women drug peddlers. The surprise raid, facilitated by vigilant police authorities, uncovered a staggering 10.755 kg of dry ganja concealed in two large pit bags, valued at approximately Rs 1.6 lakh on the black market.
According to sources, the accused, identified as Uma Devi (50) and Kajal Devi (35), both residents of Bihar’s Saharsa, were attempting to smuggle the contraband out of Tripura via Deoghar Express, utilizing Agartala Railway Station as a transit point to transport the drugs to other states. Police officials suspect that more individuals may be involved in this network, with further arrests anticipated.
The duo was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP Police Station, and will be produced before the court for further legal proceedings. The discovery of the drugs, concealed in large pit bags, is not an isolated incident, as the GRP had earlier discovered six abandoned bags containing 37 kg of dry ganja during a routine check at the same station on Friday.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to determine the owner and intended recipients of the illegal consignment, valued at approximately Rs 5.55 lakh. The GRP had launched an investigation into the earlier discovery, with the goal of identifying the masterminds behind the operation and bringing them to justice. The latest development sends a strong signal that the authorities are serious about curbing the drug menace and will not hesitate to take decisive action against those involved.
