Meg Lanning Sees Smooth Victory for Delhi Capitals Against Mumbai Indians in the Epic Final Showdown
As the Women’s Premier League’s (WPL) history is about to be written for the third consecutive year, the Delhi Capitals are looking to make their mark by winning their first-ever title. The Capitals, led by Meg Lanning, have been on a solid run, finishing top of the league stage with five wins and three losses, giving them a direct spot in the final.
When asked about playing in a third straight final, Lanning emphasized that the past is irrelevant, and it’s all about performing on the night of the final. “It’s about performing tomorrow night. We’re excited about the opportunity that we’ve given ourselves to go out there and play our best game for the tournament,” she said. The skipper also praised her teammates, stating that different players have stepped up at different times, giving them confidence heading into the final.
One player in particular who has been making a significant impact is Shafali Verma, Lanning’s opening partner. The Australian expressed her admiration for Verma’s form, saying, “She’s been excellent for us. She’s got herself some really nice starts with the bat. She looks like she’s been really enjoying her cricket. A big smile on her face a lot of the time, which is always a good sign. She’s a very important part of our team, on and off the field. I’ve really loved seeing her do well, and no doubt she’s got big innings in her for tomorrow night.”
Lanning also reflected on her experience playing in the WPL for the Delhi Capitals, saying, “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of the WPL and the Delhi Capitals. It’s an incredible competition and it’s unique in a lot of ways. But what hasn’t changed for me is how competitive I am and how much I want to win. So that’s never left me regardless of what game I’m playing or which team I’m playing for. I want to contribute and make as many runs as I can to help the team win.”
The Capitals will face off against Mumbai Indians in the WPL 2025 final on Saturday at the Brabourne Stadium, with Lanning’s team determined to bring home their first-ever title.
