Empowering the Next Generation: Arunachal Minister Hails Mebo MLA’s Youth-Focused Football Initiative
Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister, Pasang Dorjee Sona, recently praised the initiative of Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng, who has organized a week-long football training camp in collaboration with the Baichung Bhutia Football School (BBFS) of Sikkim. The camp, aimed at nurturing young football talent, is being conducted under the guidance of former Indian football captain Baichung Bhutia. Minister Sona, accompanied by Mariyang-Geku MLA Oni Panyang, visited the Kiyit village playground to interact with the young trainees and coaches, expressing his support and admiration for the initiative.
The minister emphasized the significance of grassroots initiatives in shaping the future of sports in the state. “This football camp provides a valuable opportunity for young players and will help produce skilled footballers for our state in the future,” he said. “Small collective efforts like these will bring a significant transformation in Arunachal’s football landscape.” Sona’s visit was a proud and inspiring moment for the Mebo Constituency, according to one of the organizing committee members, who credited the training camp with shaping young minds.
MLA Oni Panyang, who accompanied the minister, praised the initiative, stating that he plans to introduce similar football training camps in his own constituency, Mariyang-Geku. “I came here to observe and learn from this program so that I can replicate it in my constituency,” he said. “Engaging youth in sports helps keep them away from harmful influences like drugs and other addictions.” The MLA’s commitment to supporting the program was echoed by the minister, who reaffirmed the importance of sports in instilling discipline, passion, and purpose among the youth.
The football camp, spearheaded by MLA Oken Tayeng in collaboration with BBFS, is not only fostering sporting talent but also serving as a positive intervention to divert youth from negative influences. The involvement of local leaders and experts in the initiative has been instrumental in shaping the camp’s success, as seen in the enthusiastic participation of young trainees and coaches. With such initiatives, the future of football in Arunachal Pradesh seems to be looking brighter, and local leaders are committed to supporting similar programs across the state to ensure a healthier and more active youth population.
