Mystery Surrounds Death of NTPC Official in Jharkhand: Five Day Silence
Mystery Surrounds Murder of NTPC’s Deputy General Manager Kumar Gaurav
Five days after the brutal murder of Kumar Gaurav, Deputy General Manager of the Coal Dispatch Department at NTPC’s Keredari project, the investigation has yet to yield any arrests. In a recent statement, local police Superintendent, Arvind Singh, revealed, "We are currently investigating the case. No arrests have been made yet. We are trying to identify the suspects."
According to police reports, Gaurav, 42, a resident of Hazaribagh, was traveling to the NTPC office in a company vehicle on the morning of Saturday when two assailants on a motorcycle overtook his vehicle and opened fire near Fatha Chowk in the Katkamdag police station area. A colleague recalled that one of the three bullets hit Gaurav, who was then rushed to Arogya Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
A distraught family man, Gaurav leaves behind a wife and an 11-year-old daughter. Colleagues remember him as a soft-spoken and kind person, who never complained about any potential threats or altercations. "He was a humble person who always respected others," a colleague recalled. "We can’t understand why anyone would kill him." A native of Nalanda in Bihar, Gaurav was a graduate in engineering from Vinoba Bhave University in Hazaribagh.
As the investigation continues, Jharkhand’s Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, has accused the state government, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, of increasing crime rates by starting a "bloody conflict in the coal business". Marandi alleged that the government’s provocative statements have emboldened criminals, leading to a series of attacks, including a recent murder in Ranchi. "The police, instead of taking decisive action, turned a blind eye, allowing the crime to continue and ultimately resulting in the tragic loss of life of a young and promising officer," Marandi claimed.
As the search for justice and answers continues, concerns are growing about the growing violence associated with the coal industry in Jharkhand. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many wondering if the real motive behind Gaurav’s murder will ever be revealed.
