Urgent Plea for Justice: Seeman’s Loyal Security Guard and Driver Appeal to Madras High Court for Bail
Naam Tamilar Katchi leader S. Seeman’s security personnel and chauffeur have made headlines after they approached the Madras High Court seeking bail in a high-profile case. M. Amalraj, 50, Seeman’s security guard, and B. Subakar, 34, the driver’s plea for bail stems from charges connected to an incident on February 27, 2025. The two allegedly restrained a police inspector from entering Seeman’s residence in Neelankarai, Chennai, and were purportedly involved in an attempt to shoot him with a firearm.
The petition for bail was reviewed by Justice Sunder Mohan on March 11, 2025, who granted the prosecution until March 13, 2025, to submit a counter affidavit. Despite the prosecution’s request to delay until March 14, 2025, to prepare their submission, accusations of intentional delays were levied by the defense, prompting the judge to allow only limited time for response preparation.
The Neelankarai police have filed two First Information Reports (FIRs) against the accused. The initial complaint was lodged by Sub Inspector S. Gopi from the Valasaravakkam police station. Gopi alleged that while serving a notice related to an ongoing rape inquiry at Seeman’s residence, Subakar the driver tore down the notice soon after it was posted on the bungalow’s gate. The report states that subsequent confrontations led to alleged verbal abuse directed at the officer, prompting the filing of the first FIR.
Following the reported abuse, Inspector R. Praveen Rajesh from the Neelankarai police station attempted to access the politician’s home, only to be refused entry by the duo. When the police team sought to detain the security guard, Amalraj allegedly brandished a pistol in an attempted shooting, according to Inspector Rajesh. He reported discovering a loaded pistol and an extra magazine from the accused, claiming the weapon was used against license conditions, leading to a second FIR.
Both Amalraj and Subakar deny the accusations. They assert the police notice was responsibly removed and delivered to Seeman and his wife. Amalraj claims he surrendered his licensed firearm to authorities, disputing any story of an attempted shooting as fabricated. Additionally, the pair accuses police of physical assault, allegedly experiencing brutality involving an iron rod upon removal from the residence, and express willingness to adhere to any court-imposed conditions for bail.
Previously, their bail request was denied by the Chengalpattu Principal Sessions Court on March 6, 2025. The court highlighted the potential for evidence tampering, considering the case’s attempted murder charges involving firearms and the ongoing preliminary investigation. The prosecution’s strong objections were noted, further influencing the court’s decision to withhold bail.
This legal battle concentrates not only on the allegations and legal process but also highlights the broader issue of public figure security and law enforcement interactions in Tamil Nadu. Garnering significant attention, it underscores the serious nature of accusations linked to firearms and procedural justice, while fueling an intense focus on maintaining rigorous standards in judicial proceedings. As developments unfold, the intersection of law, politics, and public safety remains crucial to watch in this case.
