Sikkim CM’s Visionary Leadership Propels State Forward, Spotlights Police’s Crucial Role in Water Revolution
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang highlighted the crucial role of the police force in maintaining law and order in the state at a flagging-off ceremony for water tenders at Ridge Park. Emphasizing the police’s responsibility in ensuring law and order, controlling administration, and maintaining peace, Tamang praised the Sikkim Police for their national recognition, but urged further measures to strengthen the system.
Tamang stressed the importance of police presence on the field, citing that a visible and engaged police force leads to a lower crime rate. “If the police are active and present in the field, law and order will always be under control,” he emphasized. The Chief Minister also commended the leadership of newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) Akshay Sachdeva and his team, stating that under his leadership, the Sikkim Police can become the best in the country.
The state government has introduced several initiatives, including the Special Inquiry Fund and Traffic Management Fund, which were not in place prior to the current government’s tenure. Tamang also mentioned the timely promotions for police personnel, emphasizing the importance of motivation and commitment to ensuring a safe and secure state. The Chief Minister urged the six Superintendents of Police (SPs) to appoint Station House Officers (SHOs) in every police station, highlighting the crucial role of SHOs in efficient policing.
With Sikkim set to celebrate its 50th Statehood Day, Tamang underscored the critical role of the police in maintaining law and order during the celebrations. “The police will play the most important role in ensuring discipline and security during this historic occasion,” he said. The Chief Minister also announced a new initiative to revive the sports culture within the police force, including the formation of a state-level football team and a technical team to support them.
The government has committed to supporting the police department in all possible ways, with the Chief Minister reiterating that the state is always ready to provide assistance if needed. “Together, we will make Sikkim a peaceful and well-administered state,” he concluded. With a strong focus on strengthening the police force and promoting a culture of sports within the department, the Sikkim government is taking decisive steps to ensure a safer and more secure future for the state’s citizens.
