Freeing the Open Road: Assam’s Driving License Process Gets a Major Boost with Automated Testing Tracks
Assam’s Ambitious Plan to Revolutionize Driver Training with Automated Testing Tracks
The Assam Cabinet has given the green light to a groundbreaking initiative that promises to transform the way driving licenses are issued in the state. By establishing Accredited Driver Training Centres (ADTCs) featuring Automated Driver Testing Tracks (ADTT), the government aims to introduce a more transparent, scientific, and standardized process, free from human bias.
The first five ADTCs are currently under construction in Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Biswanath, Barpeta, and Kamrup Rural, with operations set to commence within the next five months. This step marks a significant shift towards eliminating human intervention, ensuring a more efficient and fair process for issuing driving licenses. According to sources, the Transport Department is working closely with contractors to establish a minimum of one training school in each Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC).
The new system will significantly reduce the scope for human error, ensuring that only qualified and capable drivers receive their licenses. “This is a significant step towards modernizing our driving license issuance process,” stated a senior official from the Transport Department, speaking on condition of anonymity. “We are committed to providing a fair and transparent system that ensures public safety and trust in our transportation infrastructure.”
The initiative also aims to provide a platform for aspiring drivers to hone their skills and become proficient in simulated driving scenarios. The ADTT will feature various driving conditions, including night-time, daytime, and rain, among others, to prepare drivers for real-life situations. Once the training is complete, drivers will be required to pass a theoretical test to demonstrate their knowledge of road safety guidelines and traffic regulations.
The rollout of ADTCs is expected to have a positive impact on the transportation sector, both in terms of safety and efficiency. With the new system in place, authorities can focus on more pressing issues, such as improving public transportation and enhancing road infrastructure. As the project gains momentum, Assam is poised to set a new standard for driver training and licensure, redefining the way the state approaches road safety and transportation.
