GUWAHATI, ASSAM – For over a month, students at S.B. Deorah College on G S Road in Ulubari, Guwahati, have been grappling with a severe water crisis, sparking outrage among the student body. The situation has taken a turn for the worse, with the college’s only water purifier remaining non-functional due to a lack of running water supply.
According to students, the hostel dormitories are also struggling with water scarcity, forcing some to resort to bathing in common room washrooms. The college’s borewell water supply, which was touted as a potential solution to the crisis, has not been fully restored, leaving students and staff struggling to cope with the situation.
The college administration, however, has attributed the water crisis to technical issues with the borewell and disruptions in the Jal Board water supply. Principal of S.B. Deorah College, speaking to GPlus, stated, “There was an ongoing crisis of water due to the disruption of Jal Board’s water supply, while the borewell water supply was also out of order, which we have since repaired.” But students and staff maintain that the borewell water supply remains inadequate, leaving them to face a grim reality.
The water crisis has taken a toll on the college’s day-to-day operations, with students and staff reporting difficulties in maintaining hygiene and basic facilities. The situation has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for the administration to take immediate action to address the issue.
