Punjab Cabinet Approves Excise Policy 2025-26, Aims to Collect ₹11,020 Crore Revenue
In a move to boost the state’s revenue and promote new investments, the Punjab Cabinet has approved the Excise Policy 2025-26, aiming to collect a revenue of ₹11,020 crores (approximately $1.44 billion USD) for the fiscal year 2025-26. This targets an increase of ₹874.05 crores (8.61%) over the previous year’s targets.
According to an official source, the cabinet made the decision yesterday. The new policy introduces several changes, including a 50% reduction in the license fee for wholesale licenses issued to defence forces, from ₹5 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh, providing relief to these personnel.
To attract new investments, the cabinet has given the green light to set up new bottling plants in the state. Additionally, the Cow Welfare Fee has been increased by 50% from ₹1 per Proof Litre (PL) to ₹1.5 per PL, which is expected to boost the collection of this fee from ₹16 crores to ₹24 crores.
The council has also proposed establishing Excise Police Stations in the coming financial year, which is expected to improve the state’s law enforcement and revenue collection.
