Empowering Minds: Assam Governor’s Passionate Call for Education in Society’s Flourishing Future
At the “Higher Education in Assam 2025” conference held in Guwahati, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya emphasized the pivotal role of education in societal development. As the Chancellor of the state’s universities, Governor Acharya underscored that higher education forms the backbone of a nation’s intellectual and social progress. He asserted that regular review meetings are crucial for assessing achievements and tackling challenges, thereby enhancing accountability and transparency within the educational system.
The event, organized by the Raj Bhavan in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education, saw participation from notable academicians, including Vice Chancellors and Principals. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu also attended the conference.
Governor Acharya highlighted Assam’s evolution as an educational hub, urging the adoption of modern teaching methods and digital platforms to address the disconnect between academic curricula and industry needs. He called for robust university-industry partnerships to equip students with practical skills essential for boosting employability.
The Governor advocated for inclusive education, accessible to all socio-economic groups, and emphasized the significance of research and international collaboration. Transparent governance, policy reforms, and robust regulatory frameworks were identified as critical for maintaining educational quality in Assam.
Addressing dropout rates, he recommended mentorship programs and career counseling as effective interventions. He also stressed the importance of swiftly filling faculty vacancies to enhance teaching standards.
Acharya praised Assam’s advancement on digital platforms like SWAYAM and encouraged gender inclusivity in technical education. He discussed implementing a Grievance Redressal Mechanism and emphasized alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, advocating it as a pathway to educational excellence.
The Governor concluded by urging collective action towards educational transformation and the implementation of initiatives like the NSS, NCC, and Scouts and Guides to inspire responsibility and patriotism among students.
