Imphal: The 2nd North East India Film Festival (NEIFF) 2025, held in Manipur, celebrated a spectacular showcase of cinematic brilliance. The Manipuri feature film “Oitharei,” produced by Gibanlata Thokchom and directed by Dinesh Naorem, earned the prestigious Best Feature Film award. Meanwhile, the Assamese non-feature film “Where Is My Home,” produced by Samiran Deka and directed by Bhaskar Jyoti Das, was recognized with the Best Non-Feature Film award.
In the category of individual achievements, Dhiraj Kashyap claimed the Best Direction award for the Assamese film “Amateurs.” Additionally, Debajit Ghayan received the Best Sound award for his work in the Assamese film “Baghjan.” For his scriptwriting excellence in the Manipuri film “Langdai Ama,” Binoranjan Oinam won Best Screenplay, while Tarun Wang took home the Best Editing award for “Laangoi.” The Best Cinematography award was presented to Joy Mekola for “Oitharei.” Notably, actor Narmada received the Special Jury Award for her role in “Sunita,” which also garnered a Special Mention (Feature Film) award. A Special Mention (Non-Feature Film) award was bestowed upon “The Legacy of 4 Generations.”
The vibrant five-day festival, commencing on February 12 at the City Convention Center in Imphal, featured 28 films, including six from the Assamese region, screened across four venues. Former Manipur Environment and Climate Change Minister Thongam Biswajit presented citations and cash prizes to the winners.
Jointly organized by THOUNA, Manipur along with Film Forum Manipur and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, the festival was sponsored by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). The event concluded on Sunday, marking yet another successful chapter in the celebration of Northeast India’s cinematic landscape.
