Celebrate: Meghalaya’s P Mario Pathaw Triumphantly Honored for Iconic Assam Police Logo Designs – Northeast News
Shillong-based illustrator P. Mario Pathaw has recently designed logos and flags for several esteemed Assam police organizations, including the Assam Battalion, Assam Commando Battalion, Assam Police Radio Organisation, and the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy. His exceptional work earned him letters of appreciation from G.P. Singh, the former Director General of Police in Assam, which were presented by Inspector General of Police Akhilesh Kr Singh.
Pathaw is a PhD scholar in the Department of Design at IIT Guwahati and is known for his expertise in communication design, architecture, illustrations, comics, and graphic design. He is the son of the late Prof. Pascal Malngiang and has illustrated books that gained recognition at the Bologna Book Fair in Italy.
The design project started last year when it was proposed to the Department of Design at IIT Guwahati. Under the mentorship of Prof. Udaya Kumar Dharmalingam, renowned for designing the Indian Rupee symbol, Pathaw collaborated with Mr. Biraj Das and the Assam police team, receiving essential feedback and suggestions throughout the process. The project went through numerous iterations before being launched this year.
In an interview with Nenews, Pathaw shared, “It was an incredible experience and a true learning opportunity. It helped me understand the semiotics of the visuals and how they connect to the culture of Assam.” He expressed his gratitude, stating, “I’m truly honoured by this recognition. A heartfelt thanks to Assam Police for considering me for this collaboration. We worked on 36 logos—28 for the Assam Battalion, 6 for the Assam Commando Battalion, 1 for the Assam Police Radio Organisation, and 1 for the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy. I also extend my deepest thanks to Sir Biraj Das and Prof. Udaya Kumar Dharmalingam for their unwavering support and guidance throughout this project.”
Pathaw’s creative journey reflects his dedication and skill, marking a significant contribution to the visual identity of Assam’s police organizations.
