In a significant effort to curb interstate drug trafficking, Itanagar police successfully apprehended four drug peddlers in two separate operations, as announced by a senior police officer on Friday. The first operation, based on reliable intelligence about the transportation of suspected heroin, was conducted by a police team from the Banderdewa station. They set a trap leading to the arrest of Tahir Ali, 29, an interstate drug dealer, in Karsingsa, Naharlagun. During the vehicle search, officers discovered 10 vials of narcotics weighing 13.61 grams hidden in the glove box, according to Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo.
In a separate operation, the Banderdewa police team, under the watchful eyes of Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo and Banderdewa tax and excise inspector Tayem Jamoh, arrested three more individuals involved in drug peddling from Niya Colony. The accused were identified as Faizul Islam, 28, Faruk Ahmed Laskar, 30, and Akhlima Begum, 30. A thorough body search led to the recovery of two soap cases and 70 vials of heroin, weighing 115.62 grams from their possession.
Superintendent Gambo commended the officers for their diligent efforts in dismantling the drug network, stating that two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered at Banderdewa police station. He also mentioned that investigations into both cases are ongoing to further understand and dismantle the trafficking operations. The police team’s success in these crackdowns is a significant step toward addressing and mitigating drug-related issues in the region.
