Exciting Opportunities: Japan and Singapore Eagerly Seek Skilled Talent from Assam – A Message of Prosperity from Himanta Biswa Sarma
The Assam government is preparing to sign two pivotal Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Japan and Singapore at the forthcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 investors summit, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 15. Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati, CM Sarma disclosed that Japan intends to recruit approximately 50,000 workers from Assam, showcasing its interest in leveraging manpower from the region. In parallel, Singapore aims to bolster its healthcare workforce by employing nurses from the state, further solidifying its collaboration with Assam.
Reflecting on the success of the initial Advantage Assam summit, the Chief Minister highlighted two major infrastructure projects that were realized as a result—the Paradeep to Numaligarh crude pipeline and the development of a regional gas grid. These initiatives were supported by the central government and marked significant milestones in Assam’s infrastructure development.
Additionally, CM Sarma pointed out Bhutan’s project to develop Gelephu My Fullness City and advocated for the creation of a special industrial economic zone in Assam, showcasing the state’s strategic role in the regional industrial expansion.
During a recent visit to Singapore, Sarma met with the country’s President, highlighting Assam’s growing international recognition. This visit underscores the state’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and economic growth.
The Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, set for February 25, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The summit seeks to attract international investment and promote economic development in Assam. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to participate in a thematic session, adding to the event’s significance.
This upcoming summit represents a critical opportunity for Assam to continue building on its momentum as a hub for international business, drawing attention and investment from key global players.
