Urgent: ATTSA’s 15-Day Ultimatum to Bandhan Bank Spirals Toward Intense Showdown!
The Assam Tea Tribes Student Association (ATTSA) in Margherita has issued an ultimatum to Bandhan Bank officials demanding resolution of a fraudulent loan scheme within 15 days, where over 200 tea tribe women were unwittingly involved. ATTSA insists on the dismissal of implicated employees, cautioning that failure to comply will lead to widespread protests.
During a press conference at the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha office, Pranjal Baraik, ATTSA’s central executive committee joint publicity secretary, disclosed that three bank employees—Ajoy Das, Subhomoy Saha, and Abhijit Dutta—along with a local collaborator, Rinku Gogoi, promised financial aid to the women. However, a Bandhan Bank investigation exposed financial misconduct, resulting in their subsequent arrest and judicial custody.
The scandal predominantly affects women from economically disadvantaged, illiterate backgrounds who were largely unaware that loans had been drawn in their names. Reports indicate that loan amounts, between Rs 45,000 and Rs 70,000, were intentionally diverted by bank staff, never reaching the intended recipients. These funds were either misused or retained by the staff involved.
ATTSA’s warning of potential large-scale protests, inclusive of highway blockades, underscores the urgency and seriousness of the situation. Their stance highlights the pressing need for justice and accountability regarding the exploitation of vulnerable community members by conspiring bank officials. As the deadline approaches, the pressure mounts on Bandhan Bank to address the grievances and rectify the situation, demonstrating a commitment to ethical practices and taking corrective action against those responsible for the fraud.
