Exclusive: Robert Pattinson Excitedly Confirms ‘The Batman 2’ Starts Filming by Year-End!
At the world premiere of “Mickey 17” in London, Robert Pattinson excitedly announced that production for “The Batman: Part II” is set to commence by the end of this year. During conversations with Variety at Leicester Square, Pattinson remained tight-lipped about the film’s plot, only hinting, “I know what it’s about, but it’s very exciting.”
In “Mickey 17,” directed by Oscar-winner Bong Joon Ho, Pattinson plays Mickey Barnes, a future pastry chef thrust into a harrowing role as an “expendable” on a space mission. His character is tasked with dying repeatedly and being “reprinted” after each death, a concept that brings staggering emotional and psychological challenges. This film, which significantly diverges from Edward Ashton’s novel “Mickey7,” weaves themes of human identity, survival, and class disparity into its narrative, accompanied by a central love story between Mickey and Nasha, played by Naomi Ackie.
Pattinson described the challenge of portraying dual roles as Mickey 17 and Mickey 18, noting the unique demands of imagining and reacting to oneself on screen. Director Bong was captivated by the fresh challenge of the film’s love story, stating, “It’s between Rob and Naomi, and that was the biggest new challenge for me.”
Naomi Ackie discussed her improvisational approach to Nasha, integrating humor and authenticity into her character. She praised the film’s technical feats, particularly the complex scenes involving multiple versions of Pattinson’s character using advanced face-swapping technology.
The cast includes Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo as an “insane narcissistic” couple overseeing the operation from opulent surroundings. Collette praised Bong’s meticulous yet liberating directing style.
“Mickey 17” will officially be released worldwide by Warner Bros. on March 7, promising audiences a thrilling journey intertwined with rich storytelling and superb performances.
