Unstoppable Triumph: Sikkim CM Celebrated as Most Beloved Leader in Home State – India Today MOTN Poll
Prem Singh Tamang, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, has soared to the top of the popularity charts, achieving a remarkable 62.1 percent approval rating according to the latest India Today Mood of the Nation poll released in February. This significant increase marks a dramatic political transformation for Tamang, whose approval was at a mere 26 percent just a year prior. By August 2024, his rating had climbed to 55.7 percent, culminating in the highest rise among all chief ministers included in the survey.
In comparison, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, MK Stalin, stands in second place with a 56.8 percent approval rating, followed closely by Assam’s Himanta Biswa Sarma at 55.4 percent. Both Stalin and Sarma have maintained stable approval ratings, highlighting the exceptional nature of Tamang’s rapid ascent.
The survey methodology involved gathering responses from 499 individuals in Sikkim, who were asked to evaluate their chief minister’s performance. These findings align with broader political developments in the state, where Tamang’s party, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), remains influential, securing Sikkim’s sole Lok Sabha seat as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Other notable chief ministers in the top ten rankings include Bhupendrabhai Patel of Gujarat with a 54.2 percent approval and Andhra Pradesh’s Chandrababu Naidu at 46.9 percent. Mixed performance ratings were registered for West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee and Tripura’s Manik Saha, while Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah recorded modest improvement, reaching 38.9 percent.
As India faces pivotal electoral contests, the survey underscores shifting political dynamics across states, with the rise in Tamang’s popularity emerging as a significant trend in regional leadership. This narrative of political change accentuates the dynamic landscape of Indian state politics, reflecting evolving public sentiments as crucial elections approach.
