Stunned & Proud: Katrina Kaif On Vicky Kaushal’s Jaw-Dropping Transformation For ‘Chhaava’ – ‘Ye Kahan Gaya’
New Delhi: Vicky Kaushal is set to dazzle audiences in the upcoming historical drama “Chhaava,” where he transforms himself to portray the iconic Maratha ruler, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Maddock Films, this period film aims to capture the valiant reign of Sambhaji, with events unfolding from his coronation in 1681.
In preparation for this demanding role, Vicky Kaushal put himself through rigorous physical and mental training, gaining 25 kilograms to perfectly embody the character. Speaking at a press event in New Delhi, he fondly remembered his wife’s, Katrina Kaif, enthusiastic reaction to his transformation. “She was thrilled,” Vicky mentioned, sharing how Katrina would often express her admiration for his Chhaava look with comments like, ‘Where did he go?’ whenever she saw the film’s posters.
The promotional event also featured Rashmika Mandanna, who shared her excitement upon landing the project. Initially unsure why director Laxman Utekar chose her, she was convinced she had to be part of the film after hearing the compelling script and viewing the first look.
During the event, Vicky also touched upon a recent controversy where a traditional Lezim dance sequence involving his character was removed after objections from politicians, including Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant. The filmmakers decided to delete the scene to respect the concerns raised, though Vicky clarified that the intent was to celebrate Sambhaji Maharaj’s youthfulness post-war.
Despite the challenges, Vicky credited his wife Katrina for being supportive throughout the hectic shooting schedule. Balancing 12-hour shoots with intense training sessions left him little time for himself, but Katrina’s understanding nature, being an industry insider herself, made the process smoother for him.
“Chhaava,” also featuring Akshaye Khanna, is set to hit theaters on February 14, offering audiences a glimpse into the compelling story of a legendary ruler.
