Unite for Change: Akhil Gogoi’s Passionate Call for a Fiery Opposition Front Against BJP in 2026 Assam Elections
Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has issued a fervent call for opposition unity to effectively challenge the BJP in the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Speaking to the media in Sivasagar, Gogoi emphasized the critical need for a unified front among opposition parties to present a formidable challenge to the ruling party. He cited recent electoral successes in Delhi and Haryana, where a united opposition successfully countered the BJP, as examples to underscore his point.
Gogoi expressed concern that many opposition forces have not yet grasped the urgency of forming a consolidated alliance. He criticized them for focusing on verbal opposition while neglecting to take substantial steps toward genuine unity. He stressed that the BJP remains a powerful adversary, and without a collaborative strategy, unseating them and safeguarding democracy would prove exceedingly difficult.
He argued that merely strengthening individual party infrastructures would not suffice and that a cohesive opposition front is crucial to improving electoral outcomes. Notably, Gogoi called on the Congress party to resolve its internal issues and spearhead a united opposition coalition. He suggested convening a meeting of all opposition parties to devise a collective strategy for the 2026 elections.
Gogoi also expressed confidence in Raijor Dal’s prospects, asserting that the party is well-positioned to secure more seats, either independently or within an alliance. He reiterated that the only viable path to counter the BJP’s “fascist and communal” policies is through united opposition efforts.
By emphasizing concrete collaboration over isolated efforts, Gogoi paints a picture of an imperative political strategy aimed at altering Assam’s political landscape in the 2026 elections.
