Shocking Twist: Bengaluru Cops Halt Ed Sheeran’s Heartfelt Street Performance
In a surprising turn of events, British pop sensation Ed Sheeran found himself at odds with the Bengaluru police while performing an impromptu mini-concert on Church Street this past Sunday. The talented singer-songwriter, who was in town as part of his India Tour, decided to treat his fans to an unscheduled street performance. However, this spontaneous gig was swiftly halted by local law enforcement due to a lack of the necessary permits.
Unaware of Sheeran’s superstar status, officers intervened and asked him to wrap up his performance. As they attempted to escort him away, Ed managed to address the crowd, cheekily stating, “We have permission to be here, but this policeman is shutting it down. See you later!” Despite his comments, both the Cubbon Park Police and the Church Street Association firmly denied that any such permission had been granted.
Sanjay Kumar, who holds the presidency of the Church Street and Rest House Association, defended the police’s actions. He pointed out that obtaining official permission is a requirement for such performances, even internationally. Kumar added that had Sheeran’s team reached out, they could have arranged a more suitable venue, like a restaurant or open venue, where Bengaluru fans could enjoy his music without any hitches.
The Cubbon Park police further clarified the situation by stating that they had not been contacted for any permissions and that performing on sidewalks or roads can inconvenience the public. Hence, when the performance persisted despite warnings, officers at the scene cut the microphone connection.
Attempts by the press to get a comment from Sheeran’s management were unsuccessful. Nonetheless, the incident added an unexpected twist to Sheeran’s India Tour, leaving fans with a memorable, albeit brief, encounter.
