Devastating Moirabari Fire: Tragedy Strikes Assam with One Dead, Several Injured
A catastrophic fire erupted late on February 8 in Ward No. 6, Barthaal Kachari Gaon, under Dalaigaon Panchayat in Moirabari, resulting in the tragic death of a physically disabled man and critically injuring several residents. The blaze caused substantial property damage, with preliminary estimates of losses surpassing Rs 10 lakh.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire began in a wooden structure within a house and swiftly spread, ensnaring those inside. In the ensuing chaos, many residents sustained serious injuries while attempting to flee. Among the victims was 22-year-old Moinul Haque, who was unable to escape due to his physical impairment and tragically perished in the conflagration while asleep.
The fire devastated the homes and belongings of two families, reducing them to ash before it was eventually brought under control. Despite the combined efforts of local residents and the Moirabari Fire Department, hours of rigorous firefighting could not save any possessions from the affected households.
In the wake of this tragedy, Moirabari police transported Moinul Haque’s body to Morigaon Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are currently working to determine the exact cause of the fire and to assess the full extent of the damages incurred.
