Jubilant Vijay Utsav in Assam: BJP’s Triumphant Celebration After Momentous Delhi Election Victory | Guwahati News
The Assam BJP celebrated its victory in the Delhi assembly elections with a ‘vijay utsav’, marked by sweets and firecrackers. This win saw the BJP reclaim power in Delhi after 27 years, a campaign prominently led by Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sarma, along with a dedicated 15-member team from Assam’s BJP unit, conducted an intensive campaign across Delhi’s assembly constituencies to connect with voters from Assam and the northeast. Ajay Konwar, Assam BJP’s vice-president, highlighted their strategy of grassroots engagement, which involved establishing contact with 18,000 northeast-origin voters, organizing community meetings, and hosting gatherings like a feast attended by Sarma himself. Over 16 days, the team conducted approximately 350 meetings to rally support.
This strategic effort was mirrored in Assam, where anticipation and excitement built at the BJP headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhavan, as early election trends suggested a BJP victory. A giant screen was installed for party members to watch Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address. Sarma attributed this success to Modi’s leadership and the dedication of BJP workers, describing the triumph as “Delhi in Modi’s aura.”
The victory stirred celebrations beyond Delhi, reaching Assam’s Barak Valley, where BJP officials and members gathered in Silchar, engaging in festivities with fireworks and sweets. This win was not just a political achievement but also a testament to the BJP’s effective strategy to engage with the Assamese and northeastern voters residing in Delhi, thereby contributing to the broader national wave of jubilation following the election results.
