In the annals of Indian cinema, "What’s Your Raashee?" stands out as a notable box-office blunder. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and released in 2009, the film was an ambitious romantic comedy based on the Gujarati novel "Kimball Ravenswood." Despite its star-studded cast featuring Priyanka Chopra, Harman Baweja, Darshan Jariwala, and Dilip Joshi, the film didn’t resonate with audiences or critics.
Priyanka Chopra undertook the challenging task of portraying 12 distinct characters—a first in cinema history. While her performance earned her a Screen Award nomination for Best Actress, the film’s lackluster performance was a personal setback. "It broke my heart," Chopra admitted in an interview, acknowledging the film’s failure. Despite the overall reception, viewers who watched it praised her versatile performances, offering Chopra some solace.
Commercially, the film grossed Rs 17 crore but was marred by its excessive three-and-a-half-hour runtime, numerous songs, and an underdeveloped plot, leading to its downfall. The negative outcome was particularly impactful for Harman Baweja, the male lead, who subsequently left acting to focus on production and writing.
