United for Health: Passionate Rally of Doctors & Organizations Supports TRIHMS Director
Multiple organizations have denounced the recent intrusion and violence at the residence of Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) Director Dr. Moji Jini in Arunachal Pradesh. The accused, Byabang Joram, allegedly broke into Dr. Jini’s home at 2:30 am on Wednesday by crashing through the gate with a car and attempting to attack him. Joram, a former president of the All Nyishi Youth Association, is now in judicial custody.
In response, the TRIHMS Faculty Association (TFA) organized a peaceful protest at the institute, joined by the Indian Medical Association’s state unit, TRIHMS staff, doctors, and MBBS students who condemned the attack. TFA President Dr. Rinchin Dorjee Megeji expressed shock, stating that such an unprecedented event stains the reputation of Arunachal Pradesh. The International Medical Association echoed support for Dr. Jini, urging amendments to the Arunachal Pradesh Protection of Medical Service Personnel and Medical Institutions Act, 2019, to protect professionals beyond their workplaces in disputes.
Galo Youth Organisation President Bomkar Gara also condemned the incident and warned against viewing it through a communal lens, commending the swift police action and demanding a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Doctors’ Association decried the incident as intolerable, demanding swift legal action against the perpetrator.
The attack is rooted in a land dispute; Joram’s elder brother stated that Joram donated the land to TRIHMS, expecting his name in donation records, which did not happen. Dr. Jini revealed this was Joram’s third act of intimidation related to the land dispute involving the former Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress office, seeking compensation and benefits. Joram allegedly demanded Rs 1 crore from Dr. Jini and his wife. This troubling incident has heightened insecurity among Arunachal Pradesh’s medical professionals, requiring urgent intervention to prevent further violence.
