Shocking Attack: Government Employee’s Stabbing Spree Leaves 4 Colleagues Injured in Kolkata
A state government employee at Karigori Bhawan in Kolkata, Amit Sarkar, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stabbing four colleagues in a fit of rage, according to the Bidhannagar police. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM, and an FIR has been filed against Sarkar. The attack reportedly stemmed from jokes made about Sarkar’s father by the colleagues. The injured, identified as Joydev Chakraborty, Sheikh Shatabul, Shantanu Saha, and Sartha Let, were admitted to a nearby private hospital, with two in critical condition.
Sarkar, a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, works in the technical education department. Authorities revealed that a traffic policeman was able to convince Sarkar to discard his weapon only after repeated requests. Following the arrest, Sarkar confessed the attack was fueled by the taunts related to his father.
Further details emerged from a preliminary police inquiry, revealing Sarkar’s frustration over being denied leave on several occasions, including when his mother was unwell. This accumulated stress is being investigated as a contributing factor to the incident. Police officials intend to question Sarkar’s superiors to delve deeper into the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
This shocking occurrence serves as a grim reminder of the importance of understanding and addressing workplace grievances before they escalate into violence. The investigation continues as authorities seek justice for the victims while ensuring workplace safety is prioritized in the future.
