Timjim Momin Named MPYC President

February 6 – Congress leader Timjim K Momin from North Garo Hills has been appointed as the president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC). This decision was made by Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Uday Bhanu Chib. Momin expressed his gratitude to the party leadership, acknowledging the trust and support shown to him. “I will try to live up to their expectations,” he stated upon receiving the appointment.

In other news from Shillong, an exclusive job fair for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) helped 41 candidates secure employment opportunities. The event was organized by the National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled (NCSC-DA), under the Directorate General of Employment, in collaboration with the American India Foundation. A total of 79 PwD candidates participated, with employers like Reliance Retail and Domino’s Pizza offering roles such as Delivery Associate and HR Recruiter. The initiative aims to integrate PwDs into the mainstream workforce, promoting economic empowerment.

Environmental Concerns Arise Over Rongjeng Borewell

In Tura, combined groups from Rongjeng, East Garo Hills, have issued a 15-day ultimatum to the deputy commissioner, demanding the cessation of alleged illegal borewell drilling at Mongri Commercial Complex. The borewell, owned by Mary M Sangma, is claimed by local organizations to be causing environmental harm, leading to nearby water sources drying up. They have requested the immediate sealing of the borewell to prevent further damage.

Authorities Shut Down Illegal Sawmill in West Garo Hills

Lastly, authorities in West Garo Hills took action against an illegal timber sawmill at Diagre village, Dobasipara. The State Forest Department closed down the operation, confiscating equipment, 140 logs, and a Mahindra pick-up vehicle. The operation, prompted by reports from local organizations, led to the seizure of a significant number of planks during the crackdown.
