Tragic Loss: Beloved Duliajan Oil Employee Falls to His Death from Hotel in Assam
In a tragic incident in Hyderabad, Pankaj Kumar Dutta, a 49-year-old employee of Oil India Ltd from Duliajan, Assam, died after falling from his hotel room early Tuesday morning. Dutta, part of a 30-member team in Hyderabad for a Leadership Development Training, was staying at ‘Abode by Shree Venkateshwara’ Hotel.
The team had arrived on February 3rd, and after attending the first day of the training on Monday, they retired to their respective rooms. Pankaj Dutta was found dead on the ground around 3:30 AM under his third-floor room, number 9. According to video evidence, the hotel lacked adequate barricades on a verandah near the door of his room, leading colleagues to suspect he accidentally slipped and fell through the early morning hours.
Hyderabad police have confined the team and are investigating the incident. This is not the first such incident at the hotel; a similar accident occurred in July 2015 when a guest, Anglo Rodriguez, fell to his death while navigating a narrow slab outside a window on the third floor.
Dutta’s body was sent for a postmortem on Wednesday, and a team from Oil India’s Duliajan headquarters is making arrangements to bring his body back home. The incident has raised alarm over safety measures in the hotel.
