Exciting Second DU Litfest Ignites Passion with Inspiring Africa Theme
Dibrugarh University Literature Festival, a prominent literary event, commenced its second edition with enthusiasm on Wednesday, bringing together writers from over 25 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe. The four-day festival, held in collaboration with Foundation for Culture, Arts & Literature (FOCAL), hosts approximately 120 distinguished literary figures, including novelists, poets, and essayists, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and experiences.
The festival was inaugurated at Rang Ghar auditorium, with explorer-writer Tete-Michel Kpomassie sharing insights from his adventurous journey to Greenland, detailed in his book “An African in Greenland.” Kpomassie emphasized understanding cultural nuances, recounting his misinterpretation of local terminology in Greenland.
Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jatin Hazarika expressed gratitude to FOCAL for organizing the event, which coincides with the university’s diamond jubilee and aligns with the National Education Policy 2022’s emphasis on arts and culture. The university, awarded Multidisciplinary Education and Research University recognition, hosted numerous national and international conferences this year, encouraging students to leverage these opportunities for academic growth.
Sahitya Akademi Award winner Dr. Nagen Saikia highlighted the importance of recognizing the temporal nature of human life, drawing parallels with classic literature. FOCAL trustee and former bureaucrat VB Pyarelal encouraged active participation in the festival, featuring over 50 sessions.
The festival’s thematic focus on Africa was showcased through various sessions and a documentary by Dibrugarh University students. The inaugural ceremony concluded with a captivating cultural performance by African students, reflecting the rich diversity and spirit of the event.
