Revolutionary Breakthrough: Army and IIT Guwahati’s Inspiring Pact on Bamboo-Based Composite Bunkers

The Indian Army and the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) have formed a significant partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to research and develop epoxy bamboo-based composites as an alternative to traditional materials for constructing bunkers in high-altitude areas. This collaboration aims to enhance defense constructions by reducing the weight and logistical burdens associated with transporting conventional materials, while maintaining robust protection for military installations.

A statement from the defense sector outlined that the project will culminate in field trials where multiple defense structures will be constructed in high-altitude terrains, assessing their viability and effectiveness. The MoU signing ceremony, held on Monday evening, was attended by prominent figures including the GOC Red Horns Division Maj Gen Rohin Bawa and IITG Director Prof Devendra Jallihal.
