Priyanka Gill’s Bold Leap: Transforming the Jewelry World with Her Dazzling Lab-Grown Diamond Venture
Priyanka Gill, a former partner at Kalaari Capital and co-founder of the Good Glamm Group, is launching a new venture called Coluxe, a brand focused on lab-grown diamonds (LGDs). This initiative comes as the global demand for affordable synthetic diamonds continues to grow. Coluxe is set to begin online sales in May, followed by the opening of a physical store. The brand will offer a range of products including solitaire rings, pendants, earrings, tennis bracelets, necklaces, and signature pieces.
Lab-grown diamonds have gained popularity worldwide due to their cost-effectiveness and quality, presenting a viable alternative to natural diamonds. The market for LGD jewelry in India was valued at $264.5 million in 2022 and is projected to grow significantly, reaching $1.1 billion by 2033, according to Technopak. This potential has spurred multiple homegrown brands to enter the industry, yet a supply glut has caused some price adjustments.
Gill highlights a notable shift in consumer behavior from natural to lab-grown diamonds, emphasizing the enormous growth potential, as only 6% of gold jewelry buyers in India own diamonds. Most brands currently market LGDs as a cost-efficient alternative to mined diamonds, lacking differentiation in design and variety.
India, a major market for gold due to cultural and investment purposes, is witnessing increased activity in the LGD sector. Fireside Ventures recently invested in the lab-grown diamond brand Aukera, further indicating a burgeoning interest in this space.
Gill is seeking to raise a Series A funding round after securing initial investments to launch Coluxe. Her background includes founding PopXo, a content community acquired by Good Glamm in 2020. She then served as co-founder of the group before joining Kalaari Capital, where she led initiatives investing in women-led businesses. Gill parted ways with Kalaari earlier this year to focus on her new venture.
As Coluxe prepares to make its market debut, Gill aims to leverage the rising consumer inclination towards lab-grown diamonds to carve out a niche in the fine jewelry sector.
