NFR Achieves Unprecedented Growth: Record-Breaking Freight Operations in Tinsukia and Katihar Divisions
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made notable strides in its freight operations, particularly in the Tinsukia and Katihar divisions, during January 2025. NFR’s enhanced logistics capabilities are playing a critical role in ensuring the transport of essential commodities, thereby supporting economic stability across the region.
In the Tinsukia division, the freight loading has experienced a robust growth of 15.9%, reaching 0.1225 million tonnes compared to the same period last year. A remarkable feat was achieved on January 24, 2025, when the division successfully loaded a substantial 273 wagons in a single day. Furthermore, unloading operations also improved significantly, with 4,124 wagons offloaded throughout the month, which marks a considerable jump from the 3,204 wagons recorded in December 2024.
Meanwhile, the Katihar division witnessed even more impressive gains. Freight loading reached 0.2322 million tonnes, marking a 21.19% year-over-year increase. Additionally, the division set a new record for freight unloading, handling 15,905 wagons—the highest number recorded in the current financial year.
Highlighting NFR’s burgeoning efficiency, the railway achieved a record-breaking train interchange milestone. On January 5, 2025, the railway managed its highest-ever daily interchange with neighboring zones, handling 158 trains in a single day. Overall, the total train interchanges for the month reached 4,235, surpassing the 4,088 interchanges from the previous year.
This remarkable performance by NFR underscores its pivotal role in bolstering logistical efficiency and economic resilience in the northeastern region.
