Heartfelt Prayers: Transgenders Unite in Powerful Spiritual Gathering in Guwahati
In a historic first for Assam, the transgender community of the northeast celebrated Saraswati Puja in Guwahati, breaking societal norms and fostering inclusivity. The event, held in Hatigaon on Monday, witnessed participation from transgenders across the region, including travelers from Manipur and Mizoram. This significant celebration was organized by the human rights group ‘Snehbandhan-Bond of Love.’
A core objective of the event was to integrate the transgender community into the cultural mainstream, as highlighted by Ajan Akash Baruah, a community member. He expressed their collective desire to partake in such cultural festivities while wearing traditional attire like the mekhela chador.
This pioneering celebration stands as a testament to the drive for social acceptance and the breaking of long-standing barriers, demonstrating unity and progress within the community.
