Breaking News: Assam Police Heroically Capture Key Terror Suspect in Kokrajhar – A Major Victory in Northeast Security!
Guwahati: In a significant development in the fight against terrorism, the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested a suspected member of extremist groups Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Jamaat-Ul-Mujahideen (JAM) in Kokrajhar district. The suspect, Nasimuddin SK, was apprehended through a coordinated operation by the STF and local police, acting on reliable intelligence.
Nasimuddin is believed to be a close associate of Nur Islam Mandal, a key figure already in police custody for involvement in several terror-related activities in the region. Authorities have accused Nasimuddin of being a co-conspirator in the acquisition of firearms and the manufacturing of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), both intended for use by extremist factions. He faces numerous charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, the Explosives Act, the Passport Act, and the Foreigners’ Act.
This arrest is integral to ‘Operation PRAGHAT,’ a comprehensive counter-terrorism effort initiated in December 2024, aimed at dismantling extremist networks and curbing activities linked to Global Terrorist Organisations within India. Following his arrest, Nasimuddin SK was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kokrajhar and has been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
In a series of related operations, the Assam Police previously detained two suspected terrorist members on December 25 in Namapara and seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition. Additionally, on the night of December 17-18, eight individuals, including one Bangladeshi national, were arrested in a coordinated inter-state operation. These efforts successfully thwarted an alleged plot to establish sleeper cells for conducting subversive activities across India.
These initiatives underline the continued dedication of Indian authorities to combat extremism and safeguard national security.
