Unveiling Magic: EIIFF 2025 in Manipur – Northeast’s Largest Film Festival Celebrates with Iconic Memento
Manipur, renowned for its cultural and cinematic legacy, is set to host the 2nd edition of the Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF) in February 2025. Running from the 6th to the 9th, this festival aims to highlight Manipur as a burgeoning center for independent filmmaking. Organized by the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) and the Manipur State Film & Television Institute (MSFTI), EIIFF 2025 will showcase 54 films, with 38 international titles.
During an event at the MSFDS premises, the festival committee revealed the Festival Memento, a creation by artist Robin Wahengbam, honoring Manipur’s artistic spirit. The memento features the Manipuri Pony, embodying both cinematic vigor and the need for preserving this endangered breed linked to the state’s heritage.
The festival plans to elevate its status with critically acclaimed films from global festivals and a special focus on Northeast Indian cinema. Categories will include International Competition, World Lenses, Northeast Currents, among others, offering a rich tapestry of cinematic expressions.
Beyond film screenings, EIIFF 2025 will host a series of industry-centric events including Masterclasses, Cine Talks, Panel Discussions, and Pitch Sessions for documentary and fiction. These activities aim to nurture talent, promote collaboration, and facilitate networking within the film industry.
Festival Director Sunzu Bachaspatimayum detailed the delegate registration, which requires a fee of Rs. 150 via the festival website for access to screenings and events. Delegates will enjoy additional perks such as access to a food court and cultural programs at the City Convention Centre. Importantly, children are allowed at the side events but not in film screenings.
EIIFF 2025 promises an immersive experience for cinephiles and industry insiders, bolstering Manipur’s position on the global film stage.
