Shocking Discovery: Police Uncover Secret Arms Cache in East Garo Hills, Meghalaya!
Police in East Garo Hills have unearthed a substantial arms and ammunition cache, sparking concerns about possible connections to the region’s past militant activities. The discovery occurred near Chibilbang village and included a country-made firearm, two live mortar shells, and 428 rounds of suspected AK ammunition.
The operation followed credible intelligence and commenced on the evening of January 29. A special operations team from Williamnagar conducted a thorough search in the jungle area under the Rongjeng Police Station jurisdiction, beginning around 10 p.m. By approximately 1 a.m. on January 30, the team had successfully unearthed the buried arms and ammunition near a prominent tree.
East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, SA Rynjah, stated that the seized items might be linked to the now-defunct Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), a militant group that once operated in the area. The police are actively investigating to trace the origins and intended use of the cache, aiming to unravel any possible connections to past insurgent activities and to ensure regional safety.
