Shocking News: Rohit Sharma Skips Crucial Champions Trophy Photoshoot in Pakistan
The uncertainty surrounding India’s captain Rohit Sharma’s potential visit to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy’s opening ceremony and photoshoot has been resolved. Due to logistical challenges with teams arriving on different dates, there will be no opening ceremony or official captains’ photoshoot. The Indian Express reports that because India is not traveling to Pakistan, there was speculation about Rohit crossing the border for the photoshoot. It is now clear that no such plans exist, and only a modest ceremony is being organized by Pakistan before their opening match against New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi.
Historically, the Champions Trophy hasn’t featured elaborate opening ceremonies like the 50-over World Cup. Even when India hosted the World Cup in 2023, the event only included an official photoshoot and a joint press conference with captains. Similarly, the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean did not have these events. This time, sources confirm there will be no opening event or photoshoot due to scheduling constraints, as England and Australia will only arrive in Pakistan on February 18 or 19.
The event will not include practice matches, deviating from the usual practices for ICC events. Australia, winless in the tournament since 2009, is completing a tour in Sri Lanka that ends on February 14, followed by a short break before heading to Pakistan. Likewise, the England team, concluding their India tour on February 12, will also take a break before departing.
With the tournament approaching, attention is on Pakistan to see if they complete renovations of their stadiums in time. Meanwhile, India’s team will play its group stage matches in Dubai.
