Breaking Barriers: Journalists Embrace a Landmark Health Revolution with CMAAY Enrollment
In Itanagar, on 29 January, Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge distributed Chief Minister Arogya Arunachal Yojana (CMAAY) cards to three journalists at a mass enrolment event held at the Arunachal Press Club (APC). This initiative marks the first instance in the country where both APST and non-APST journalists, affiliated with the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ), are included under a government health scheme. The program aims to acknowledge the vital role journalists play and ensure their access to health benefits.
Minister Wahge emphasized the media’s crucial role in connecting the government with the people and noted that journalists are pivotal in raising awareness about welfare schemes. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and providing accessible and affordable medical services to all through initiatives like the “Health Mela,” designed to reach underserved areas.
APC President Dodum Yangfo praised the CMAAY’s extension to journalists as a significant move to address the health security challenges faced by media professionals who often work in demanding conditions. APUWJ President Amar Sangno described the initiative as a historic milestone, ensuring that the journalism community receives necessary support, reflecting the state’s acknowledgment of their contribution to public information and education.
Sangno also expressed gratitude towards the CMAAY team, including health research scientist Dr. Nabam Peter and State Health Agency project manager Kime Pubyang, for their dedication to implementing this scheme. The event was attended by key figures such as Health and Family Welfare Secretary Ira Singhal, OSD to Health Minister Dr. Gomi Basar, and senior APC and APUWJ officials, who collectively supported this initiative as a step forward in safeguarding journalists’ health and well-being.
