Unveiling the Mystery: Ex-PM Rao’s Controversial Absence During the 1990s Ethnic Crisis
Chief Minister N Biren Singh criticized the Congress for persistently urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur amid ongoing unrest. Singh questioned the precedent set by the Congress, pointing out that former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao did not visit the state during significant ethnic clashes in the 1990s, which resulted in over 1,000 fatalities. Singh accused the Congress of instigating unrest and then blaming the BJP-led state government for the ongoing issues.
Singh emphasized recent governmental initiatives aimed at regional development, mentioning a revival of the ‘Go to Hill’ mission. This mission included visits to Maram, Senapati, and Kamjong, reflecting efforts toward economic progress in hill areas. He highlighted transformative developments in Tamenglong, acknowledged as previously underdeveloped, where a significant cabinet meeting recently took place, launching projects worth Rs 300 crore.
Expressing concerns about potential illegal immigration, Singh alerted the public to the risks posed by the newly opened Tamenglong-Muhur Road, which connects Manipur to Assam. He advised indigenous communities to remain aware and prevent illegal entries to safeguard the state’s demographic integrity.
Singh’s comments underscore the ongoing political tension and developmental challenges in Manipur, with his administration focusing on enhancing infrastructure while addressing security concerns.
