A new case of severe Clade Ib mpox has been confirmed by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) in East Sussex. The individual, recently returned from Uganda, is receiving specialized care at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Though further details remain undisclosed, UKHSA assures that the risk to the UK public is low. This marks the sixth case in England since October 2023, unrelated to previous cases. Monitoring and preventive steps, including testing and vaccination, are being implemented for those in close contact with the infected person. Dr. Meera Chand of UKHSA acknowledged the swift identification of the virus, emphasizing rapid tracing efforts and minimizing potential spread.

Transmission can also occur from pregnant women to their fetuses and through animal-to-human interactions. Symptoms typically appear seven days after exposure and may last 2–4 weeks, characterized by fever, rash, sore throat, and other flu-like signs. While no specific treatment exists, symptom management and vaccination are vital for preventing spread.
