Heartfelt Solidarity: Tawang’s Compassionate Walk for Tibet Earthquake Victims
TAWANG, 12 Jan: In a heartfelt display of unity and support, thousands gathered in Tawang on Sunday for a candlelight march to honor the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Tibet on 7 January. The march, spearheaded by Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering, aimed to express solidarity with those affected by the tragedy that claimed numerous lives and left many injured and homeless.
Beginning at the Tawang monastery, the procession made its way to Masang Dungyur Mani in Old Market. Participants included prominent figures such as Galden Namgyal Lhatse monastery abbot Shedling Tulku Thupten Tendar Rinpche, monks from several monasteries, public leaders, and members from various organizations like the MMT, AMSU, ATDSU, Taxi Association, and WWA. Government officials, social organizations, and bazaar secretaries from all three markets in Tawang also joined the march.
During the event, Tsering and fellow participants offered condolences and prayers at the monastery for the deceased and wished for the recovery and well-being of the injured and displaced. The earthquake, which hit Tibet on 7 January, resulted in at least 126 fatalities and over 100 injuries, with tremors felt as far as Nepal, Bhutan, and parts of northern India.
This communal effort underscores the resilience and compassion of the Tawang community in times of adversity, demonstrating a profound commitment to supporting their neighbors in need.
