Manipur Security Forces Heroically Uncover Deadly Arsenal in Churachandpur and Tengnoupal
Security forces in Manipur successfully conducted operations resulting in the recovery of seven firearms and explosive materials in the districts of Churachandpur and Tengnoupal. In Old Gelmol village, within the Churachandpur Police Station precincts, authorities seized seven firearms, including an AK-56 rifle, and a Chinese-made hand grenade, according to a senior officer.
Further operations in the Govajang area under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal led to the discovery of two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), each weighing about 1 kg, and an additional IED weighing nearly 5 kg. In another coordinated operation in the Chavangphai and Govajang Village areas, security personnel retrieved similar explosive devices, strengthening safety protocols in the region.
The state’s conflict, which has claimed over 250 lives and displaced thousands since ethnic violence erupted in May last year, underscores the importance of these security efforts. During these operations, security forces also facilitated the safe passage of essential goods, escorting 199 and 383 vehicles along National Highways 37 and 2, respectively. Security measures were intensified in sensitive areas, with a total of 106 checkpoints established across both the hill and valley districts. Despite these extensive measures, no detentions were reported. These efforts reflect ongoing commitments to maintaining peace and security in the region amidst ongoing tensions.
