Explosive Showdown: BPSC Sends Urgent Legal Notice to Prashant Kishor and Guru Rehman Over Defamatory Allegations Amid Intensifying Patna Protests
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has issued legal notices to Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, and educator Guru Rahman for allegedly making defamatory statements during protests over the BPSC exams. Candidates who took the BPSC prelims on December 13 have been protesting, citing paper leaks and other irregularities. Kishor received a notice for his media statements accusing the BPSC of corruption. The commission demanded he provide evidence or face legal action. The notice outlined Kishor’s claims of malpractice and corruption in the 70th Combined Competitive Examination, which allegedly harmed BPSC’s credibility.
Guru Rahman was served a notice for spreading rumors about the exam’s normalization process. He had encouraged protest against the BPSC on December 6, citing unverified information. Rahman, who had been arrested and later released on bail, stated he would not apologize and would continue supporting the students. The BPSC demanded an unconditional public apology from him or warned of legal proceedings.
Protesters have complained about non-functional CCTV cameras and late distribution of question papers at some centers. Despite the tensions, the BPSC conducted a successful retest at a center with acknowledged discrepancies. The situation highlights ongoing unrest among candidates and challenges faced by the public service commission in ensuring a fair examination process in Bihar.
