Heroic Police Raid in Upper Assam: 9 Arrested, 2 Children Rescued from Trafficking Nightmare
In Tinsukia, Assam, a human trafficking network was dismantled with the arrest of nine individuals and the rescue of two children, as reported by local police on Tuesday. These children were found in Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh, where they had been sold by the traffickers. The operation was spearheaded by Tinsukia’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nishita Jagtap, along with sub-inspector Riyaz Ali.
The trafficking gang targeted impoverished families in the tea garden regions, offering money to lure them into giving up their children, who were subsequently sold in different states. The two children recently rescued were reportedly sold for Rs 2 lakh. Authorities believe this group may be responsible for additional trafficking incidents, and further interrogations of the arrested suspects may facilitate more child rescues.
The case underscores the dire need for increased vigilance and intervention in areas vulnerable to trafficking, particularly regions with high poverty levels. The successful rescue offers hope for other victims and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat these heinous crimes.
