Kharge Boldly Challenges BJP’s Inflation Tactics: A Fiery Debate Before the Budget
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has taken a strong stance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), criticizing its handling of inflation and Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates in a recent social media post. He highlighted the significant financial pressure on citizens, especially as the Union Budget for 2025-26 approaches. Kharge expressed his concern over the sharp increase in the prices of essential goods, including medicines, cooking oil, tea, coffee, and soap, questioning the effectiveness of the government’s economic policies.
Kharge’s critique extended to the GST, which he labeled as having “senseless” rates that have allegedly contributed to an economic slowdown across India. He noted that such tax burdens have led to a decline in consumption, creating widespread worry about the country’s economic health. Furthermore, he questioned the government’s Pre-Budget Consultations, chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, doubting their value if they fail to address rampant inflation.
In a sharp accusation, Kharge claimed that the BJP places the interests of wealthy individuals above the general public. He suggested that the party is more focused on benefiting billionaire allies than alleviating the financial hardships faced by everyday citizens. Kharge warned that this imbalance could have repercussions in upcoming elections, as he believes the public is becoming increasingly aware of these disparities.
As Sitharaman engaged with trade unions and stakeholders in the eighth Pre-Budget Consultation meeting, the forthcoming budget, set for presentation in February, is anticipated to tackle economic challenges and drive growth. However, Kharge and other opposition leaders remain skeptical about the budget’s potential to adequately address critical issues such as inflation and public savings. The Congress leader’s criticisms underscore the growing political tension over economic management as the nation looks towards its future fiscal policies.
