Heroic Navy Team Rushes to Rescue Trapped Miners in Dima Hasao Coal Mine Crisis
The Assam government has enlisted the Navy’s help in a rescue operation at the Umrangshu coal mine in Dima Hasao district, where 15 miners are feared trapped due to sudden flooding on January 6. Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar Jha confirmed that a Navy team is en route from Vishakhapatnam to assist. Contrary to some reports, Jha denied that bodies had been sighted floating inside the mine.
The Indian Army has also mobilized an Engineers Task Force, including divers and medical teams, to aid in the rescue. This operation is being conducted alongside the civil administration to ensure the trapped miners’ safe and prompt recovery. The miners, caught off guard by the surge of water, are being supported by Army specialists equipped with the necessary tools for rescue. The Assam Rifles have joined these efforts, working closely with other units under the supervision of senior Army officials and civil authorities.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had appealed for the Army’s support, which was quickly provided. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are also on their way to strengthen the ongoing rescue operations. Local authorities have expressed gratitude for the swift deployment of resources aimed at securing the miners’ return.
Chief Minister Sarma has released the names of nine trapped miners: Ganga Bahadur Shreth (38) from Nepal, Hussain Ali (30) from Darrang, Jakir Hussain (38) from Darrang, Sarpa Barman (46) from Kokrajhar, Mustafa Seikh (44) from Darrang, Khusi Mohan Rai (57) from Kokrajhar, Sanjit Sarkar (35) from Jalpaiguri, Lijan Magar (26) from Dima Hasao, and Sarat Goyary (37) from Sonitpur. The efforts continue as rescue teams work tirelessly to bring them to safety.
