Remarkable Growth: Mizoram Celebrates Over 15,800 Joyful Births Amidst 6,300 Heartfelt Farewells in 2024
Mizoram reported significant demographic figures for 2024, with over 15,800 births and more than 6,300 deaths, according to the state’s Economics and Statistics Department. Aizawl emerged as the district with the highest birth rate, welcoming 6,624 newborns. It was followed by Lawngtlai with 2,367 births and Champhai with 1,407. On the lower end, Hnahthial district recorded the fewest births, with just 72 babies.
During the same period, the state saw 6,392 deaths. Notably, cancer was the leading cause, claiming 623 lives, followed by respiratory issues causing 520 deaths, and heart disease resulting in 467 fatalities. Accidental deaths accounted for 209 cases, while 58 individuals died by suicide. The causes of death for 4,366 cases remain unspecified in the records.
Aizawl not only led in birth rates but also recorded the highest number of deaths, totaling 3,041. In Aizawl, cancer was responsible for the loss of 344 lives, heart diseases caused 332 deaths, and respiratory ailments resulted in 298 fatalities. Additionally, the district reported 114 accidental deaths and 20 suicides during the year.
These statistics highlight critical health challenges in Mizoram, emphasizing the need for targeted healthcare interventions to address prevalent diseases and potentially prevent accidental and suicide-related fatalities.
