Beloved Assamese Poet Jogen Taid’s Heartfelt Farewell: A Tremendous Loss to Literature
Renowned Assamese poet Jogen Taid, known for his poignant depictions of the Subansiri river and the culture of its people, passed away on Monday after a brave fight against cancer. He was 56. Taid’s work captured the rustic life of Ghunasuti, blending it with romantic naturalism, connecting deeply with readers and establishing a loyal following. He played a pivotal role in organizing annual poetry festivals in Ghunasuti, bringing together literary and cultural figures.
His acclaimed poetry collections, such as “Sariyah Rokhiya Ejoni Gabharu,” “Borokhunot Gabhoru Jaak,” and “Aji Rati Thaki Jowa Hole,” are celebrated as classics within Assamese literature. Born in Ghunasuti in 1968, Taid worked as an assistant teacher at Ghunasuti High School in Lakhimpur district. He leaves behind his wife and two sons.
Taid’s funeral was marked by a solemn procession through three villages, culminating in his interment at his ancestral village, Simaluguri. His passing has cast a shadow over the literary and cultural communities of Lakhimpur, Assam. Despite his untimely death, Taid’s contributions to Assamese literature are set to inspire future generations.
