Kohima, December 7 (MExN): The Cultural Mosaic, a vibrant celebration of the diverse and unique cultures of various Naga tribes, was held at NSF Solidarity Park on December 7. This event, organized by the Department of Tribal Affairs as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebration and the IEC Campaign for Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, provided a platform for showcasing the rich art and cultural heritage of the Nagas.
Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Elections, H Tovihoto Ayemi, commended the Department for creating this opportunity and highlighted the significance of the Hornbill Festival in promoting unity and progression within Naga society. Ayemi encouraged participants to cherish the festival’s joyful moments and praised the winners of various competitions.
Honored guest, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor to the Government of India, Asit Gopal, celebrated the growing prominence of the Hornbill Festival both nationally and internationally. He recognized Nagaland’s vital role in advancing organic agriculture in the country, emphasizing the festival’s representation of unity and the spirit of Nagaland.
Special guest, Minister for Roads & Bridges, G Kaito Aye, highlighted the Hornbill Festival as a testament to culture’s power in fostering unity and celebrating humanity. He lauded the younger generation’s efforts in embracing their roots while invigorating traditions with fresh perspectives. Kaito Aye stressed the transformative potential of incorporating indigenous knowledge into policies for sustainable development, noting that initiatives like Cultural Mosaic empower communities and honor cultural heritage.
The program included a welcome speech by Angelina Tajen, Secretary of the Tribal Affairs Department, and an invocation by Pastor Zuchonthung Ovung of Kohima Lotha Baptist Church. Musical performances by Medophrenuo Miese, Chubatola Imsong, and the presentation of the national song by Angap Ngapgang enriched the celebration. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Director I. Sino Phom, followed by a bonfire and the Hornbill Feast & Music.
